Wilma J. (Dennison) Poe (87) of Williamsville passed away peacefully from this world to be with Jesus, her personal Lord and Savior, on October 21 at Heritage Hospice. Wilma was born on June 7, 1930 in rural Elkhart to Robin and Elsie (Carter) Dennison. She married her high school sweetheart, Norman (Posey) Poe on June 5, 1949. She is survived by two daughters, Dianne (Jim) Pickett of Ozark, MO and Debbie (Loren) Crowe of Williamsville, one grandson Tim Crowe of Virden, two sisters-in-law Sarah Poe and Anita Dennison, and a large number of nieces, nephews, and cousins. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, sister Doris Powell, brothers Fred and Bernard Dennison, and stepfather Joe Winkler.
Wilma was a member of Williamsville Christian Church where she taught Sunday School, VBS, and Bible Study plus serving in various other ministries throughout the years. She is remembered for her kindness and patience, in addition to being very well-known for her angel food cakes at church potlucks and family reunions.
She began working as a local telephone operator while attending Williamsville High School and after graduation worked at General Telephone until her daughters were born. In the 1960s, she became a secretary and worked for H.B. Hollis Insurance Agency that eventually grew into Hollis, Neff & Bomke. While there, she also assumed the additional roles of office manager/bookkeeper. She worked for HNB over 30 years before retiring.
The family is grateful to the staffs at Villa West Senior Care, Memorial Medical’s Emergency Room, and Heritage Hospice for the kindness, care, and compassion that they extended to Wilma and them.
Visitation will be Tuesday, October 24 at Williamsville Christian Church from 9:30 – 11 AM with services following at 11:00 a.m. Rev. David Beals will officiate. Burial will be at Walnut Hill Cemetery in Williamsville.
